Nestled on the banks of the Guadalupe river, many of the original buildings still stand. Gruene Hall

Located prominently in the main intersection of Gruene is Texas oldest dance hall, Gruene Hall. The white waterfall façade and unique Alamo like architecture makes it hard to miss. Built in 1878, it was the social center point of the town of Gruene. Gruene was rural hot spot. The main economic driver was cotton cultivation. The town died in the 1920’s with the bowl weevil plight. Fortunately, in the 1970’s the town was bought and redeveloped into what it is today.

One common question that we are asked is, “can you get married at Gruene Hall?.” Gruene Hall is available for private rental. That being said, the dates are extremely limited and the price is out of 99% of most peoples budget.

Today, Gruene Hall is one of the best places to catch some the hottest country music acts in the country. Many of our couples met at Gruene Hall or have created dating memories at the Hall. Although we are not Gruene Hall, Gruene Estate offers the same type of esthetic and charm that Gruene Hall offers.

A Little Texas Farm

Gruene Estate is Texas premier outdoor wedding and event venue.   Conveniently located between San Antonio and Austin Texas in the Historic town of Gruene Texas.  The original Gruene Family Farm of Ernst & Antoinette Gruene spreads over 17 secluded acres between Historic Gruene and New Braunfels, Texas. Since 1852, this home has been a sincere labor of love. Our family continues the Gruene family tradition by preserving the history and adding beauty with modern elegance to our venue. The original open-air chapel is stunning and intimate, surrounded by nature. The modern farmhouse covered pavilion embodies all the beauty of the venue, adding fun and everlasting memories. Our open air chapel has been featured in People Magazine, Brit and Co. and Green Wedding shoes. It was even the back drop for the wedding of Whiskey Myers front man Cody Cannon!

Two Rivers

Accommodating guest that travel from out of town for destination weddings is a concern for any bride. Rest assured, there is something for everybody in Gruene Texas. Our main attractions are our gorgeous rivers. Unlike other rivers in Texas, the Comal and Guadalupe Rivers are blessed with limestone river bottoms and bubbling natural springs. This gives us the prettiest water in the state that never runs dry.

Floating our rivers in Gruene is a Texas right of passage. Floating in an innertube really is the perfect pre wedding group activity. Weekdays on both the Guadalupe and Comal rivers can be slow and quiet which makes for a great float. If you are looking for a more lively atmosphere, then you want to float on the weekend which is usually one epic floating party (think South Padre meets Havasu on spring break).

Great Food Too

One problem that we have helped brides navigate during the Covid pandemic, is finding restaurants that can accommodate large groups for rehearsal dinners. Gruene has several restaurants that can accommodate large groups and that are Covid friendly, offering ample space for social distancing.

The Grist Mill is by the far the most popular eatery in Gruene. It is ideal for your out of town destination wedding guests looking to experience the best of the Lone Star State. Offering outdoor seating under expansive live oaks, The Grist Mill offers a wide range of menu options. Thick slabs of juicy meat are staples of the current upscale casual dining menu, they are joined by popular South Texas fare such as chicken fried steak, fried catfish, grilled chicken, and Texas-sized sandwiches. Wash it down easy with a favorite from their beer cooler, wine list or hand-crafted cocktail menu. There is something for everybody in Gruene Texas!
