Seasons Do Matter

During the decision-making process, make sure that you are looking floral options that fit with your season.  Like all things in nature, flowers are grown seasonally and many species are not available year-round. If there is a flower that is out of season, but is available, know that you are going to pay a premium price for those seasonally rare pieces. Look for flowers that are blooming naturally around you wedding date, and make sure that you are willing to be flexible. Many species can be substituted with a similar plant that is in season.

DIY Isn’t as Easy as It Seems

Remember, you get what you pay for, and sometimes saving time is more important than money. There is often the misconception that there is an added fee to flowers simply because it is a wedding. This is not true, and sometimes brides take the DIY route to try mitigate this cost. The reason flowers are so expensive for weddings, is that floral arrangements are one the most intricate and detailed aspects of wedding décor, which require much more labor than anything else. Doing DIY flowers is not as easy as it seems. Removing thorns, pruning, cleaning off pollen, and then arranging the flowers into a beautiful bouquet and center piece is not an easy task. The aforementioned process doesn’t take into account storing and transporting the flowers either. If this is your thing, go for it, but make sure you alot plenty of time in the wedding day time line.

Don’t Use Overly Scented Flower

Flowers smell nice and at this is definitely a part of what makes them so beautiful and attractive. Remember, the food and dining experience is also an important part of the wedding day. Make sure that your floral arrangements in your centerpieces aren’t fragrantly so overwhelming strong that the smell interferes with you guest taste buds. Go for something subtle here and this is a great place to really add a lot of greenery.

Get Creative

Besides center pieces and bouquets, there are endless possibilities in which you can utilize flowers to enhance your event and add some special meaning. Taking a sentimental piece of material like your mom’s wedding sash or veil and incorporating them into your arrangement adds a special touch. Other creative options could be hanging greenery and creeping or crawling floral arrangements over doors and entry ways. Really the options are endless and up to you!

If you don’t know someone who can give you recommendations, then wedding sites with reviews like New Braunfels Wedding Guide, The Knot and Here Comes the Guide are all great places to start.

Remember that florists are working with live specimens, and this means that there is going to be some substitutions due to late blooming flowers or certain species that just aren’t available. Your florist will make some recommendations. Listen to them!
